New federal laws to cut down air pollution from auto painting and stripping has forced some auto painting shops to start going green. Now this doesn’t mean freeways will take on the aerial appearance of vines weaving through the urban jungle. It simply means methods and products used by these shops will be revamped to be more eco-friendly.

Adam D. Haddad, owner of a Worcester, Massachusetts auto body shop, has spearheaded the effort in this green transition. The shop, Accurate Collision, is one of the firsts to comply with the new laws. It has led the way by switching from petroleum-based paints to water-based paints. Read the rest…

In a Moscow meeting between President Dmitri A. Medvedev of Russia and President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela this week, news broke that the two oil-rich nations would be working together more closely than ever before. Their new partnership would involve coordinated action that would potentially impact global gas and oil markets, and would include foreign policy considerations as well.
During these talks, there has also been the undercurrent of news that Chavez is expected to purchase more than one billion dollars in Russian arms. Aside from this, the two leaders discussed a strategic partnership to counter American strength in the global oil market in general, and in the region with Venezuela, specifically.

In a report from Washington yesterday, President George W. Bush spoke disparagingly of a bill set to combat climate change. The bill is currently the subject of Senatorial debate this week. Comments from the President are below.
President Bush: “Today, the Senate is debating a bill called the Warner-Lieberman bill which would impose roughly $6 trillion of new costs on the American economy. There’s a much better way to address the environment than imposing these costs on the job creators which will ultimately have to be borne by American consumers.
“I urge the Congress to be very careful about running up enormous costs for future generations of Americans. We’ll work with the Congress, but the idea of a huge spending bill fueled by taxes (sic) increases isn’t the right way to proceed.”

Security Company Seeks Information On Environmental Organizations
Ever have the feeling you are being followed? Maybe you have been because you’re green.
Becket Brown International (BBI), a former private security company, was spying on Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and other reputable environmental organization from the late 1990s to at least 2000.
The groups rifled through trash bins, collected phone records, financial statements, internal records like donor lists and staff’s Social Security numbers, planted undercover operatives within the groups and tried to obtain information during confidential meetings. These were compiled to produce intelligence reports for PR firms and corporations involved in environmental issues with green groups. Read the rest…

“Global warming could force elk and mule deer from much of the American West. Wild trout could disappear in lower Appalachian streams.
Two-thirds of the country’s ducks may disappear.
A new assessment of the threat to fish and wildlife habitat has hunters and anglers calling for action.
Groups representing nine major hunting and fishing organizations planned to meet Thursday with the House committee chairman who hopes to write legislation to curtail greenhouse gases linked to global warming.”

Ludacris Vs. Tommy Lee in Battleground Earth
The Discovery Network and its new offshoot Planet Green have signed on Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee and rapper Chris “Ludacris” Bridges in their new reality show, Battleground Earth.
No, I didn’t think it could happen either.

Ten episodes are planned for production, with the show premiering in late July or early August. The company is rebranding its Discovery Home network as Planet Green, which will debut on June 4.

Al Gore Launches “We” Campaign
Al Gore has begun an immense PR campaign from his Alliance for Climate Protection (ACP) in an effort to call attention to the need to change policies regarding climate change. The “we” campaign is a three-year $300 million movement aimed at shifting public opinion over the urgency of global warming and the fact that “we” can overcome it.

The “we” campaign will feature television ads, print ads and social networks, utilizing 10 million volunteers to spread the good word.
