Green Corporations: Wal-Mart and General Electric
GE and Walmart CEOs
The last two corporations you would ever think are green are indeed green and sticking to it.

General Electric Co. (GE) and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. are massive companies that took the initiative by going green a while ago. So was that a marketing scheme, or are they putting their money where their mouths are?

General Electric Equals Green Energy

General Electric manufactures energy efficient lights, wind turbines, energy efficient jet engines and locomotives as well as other eco-friendly products. The company also started its EcoMagination campaign aimed at revamping its image and creating U.S. jobs.

Wal-Mart Greening Up Its Bottom Line

Tiger Population Dying
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) stated earlier this week in Stockholm that the world’s tiger population might have halved in the past 25 years. This is compared to an estimated 5,000-7,000 tigers in 1982.

WWF estimated there are around 3,500 left, with the South China Tiger nearing extinction.

Colbert Refuses to Quench Thirst, Celebrates World Water Day

Last Thursday, in honor of World Water Day on March 22, Stephen Colbert vowed not to drink a drop on The Colbert Report.

Started in 1992 out of a United Nations conference, World Water Day promotes water conservation internationally. This year, the theme is “sanitation,” bringing awareness to such issues as hygiene promotion, water quality, wastewater treatment, sewage systems and sanitary facilities.

The show focused on water conservation while Colbert discussed the problem of America’s “addiction to water.” “My name is America,” he stated, “and I am addicted to water.”

Purifying Everything: Interview With Dean Kamen

Colbert interviewed Dean Kamen, the inventor of a vapor compression distiller that — unbelievably — can turn pretty much any kind of liquid into distilled water. Check out what Stephen does with a bag of Doritos.

Trumping the Recent Santa Monica City-Wide Plastic Bag Ban
Coopportunity Super Market
I received this email from the Co-opportunity Super Market the other day and thought I’d share it with you:

Email From Co-Opportunity Super Market in Santa Monica

“In anticipation of the impending Santa Monica City-wide ban of single-use plastic bags, we have decided we will not offer any single-use plastic bags starting April 1st. Single-use plastic bags are the thin plastic bags you would get from any ordinary grocery store. We will still have our large plastic Co-opportunity bags available. We chose our bags because they are thick and durable, and therefore perfect to be reused; they also go above and beyond the proposed City requirements for multiple-use plastic bags.

Although we will still be offering you your choice of paper or multiple-use plastic bags, why not Read the rest…

Southern Baptist Leaders Now Environmentalists
Southern Baptist Congregation
The Southern Baptist Convention released a statement on Monday that advocated action against global warming. Forty-six members criticized the church, claiming that they had been “too timid” and that more needed to be done.

The title of the new declaration is “A Southern Baptist Declaration on the Environment and Climate Change”. Click on the link to find more information there.

The new declaration states, “Our cautious response to these issues in the face of mounting evidence may be seen by the world as uncaring, reckless, and ill-informed. We can do better.”

This is a noticeable change from a statement released in 2007 questioning whether Read the rest…
