Editor’s note: In an effort to reach out to other like-minded bloggers in the eco and green online worlds, we’ve partnered with Eco Child’s Play for today’s post. The following was written by Jennifer Lance of Eco Child’s Play.
When I taught grades K-8 in a one-room schoolhouse, we began each morning with the sun salutation, only I called it the “good morning” stretch in order to not freak out some right wing parents.
We would go to the grassy field, form a circle, and flow through this vinyasa each morning. On rainy days, we modified this practice in the classroom. I’ve recently come across several articles about yoga in the classroom and the benefits to children.

Global Warming a Threat to Baby Seals

Seal cubs are one of the more adorable endangered species, but not for long if the earth continues heating up.

Trumping the Recent Santa Monica City-Wide Plastic Bag Ban

I received this email from the Co-opportunity Super Market the other day and thought I’d share it with you:
Email From Co-Opportunity Super Market in Santa Monica
“In anticipation of the impending Santa Monica City-wide ban of single-use plastic bags, we have decided we will not offer any single-use plastic bags starting April 1st. Single-use plastic bags are the thin plastic bags you would get from any ordinary grocery store. We will still have our large plastic Co-opportunity bags available. We chose our bags because they are thick and durable, and therefore perfect to be reused; they also go above and beyond the proposed City requirements for multiple-use plastic bags.
Although we will still be offering you your choice of paper or multiple-use plastic bags, why not Read the rest…

Southern Baptist Leaders Now Environmentalists

The Southern Baptist Convention released a statement on Monday that advocated action against global warming. Forty-six members criticized the church, claiming that they had been “too timid” and that more needed to be done.

The new declaration states, “Our cautious response to these issues in the face of mounting evidence may be seen by the world as uncaring, reckless, and ill-informed. We can do better.”
This is a noticeable change from a statement released in 2007 questioning whether Read the rest…

Chemicals Found in Tap Water Testing

A testing of local tap water determined that 24 metropolitan areas had traces of at least one pharmaceutical drug.
Drugs found in the tap water included antibiotics, mood stabilizers and sex hormones. Around 41 million Americans and their tap water are affected.
Why the Public Does Not Know About Drugs in Drinking Water
Usually, water companies and researchers do not tell the public about their discoveries. National security, panic, confidentiality agreements and public misunderstanding are just some of the reasons these groups choose to be discreet. Scientists and professors who have conducted tests and found pharmaceuticals in drinking water Read the rest…
